5 Reasons to Retire in Las Vegas, Nevada

5 Reasons to Retire in Las Vegas, Nevada

5 Reasons to Retire in Las Vegas, Nevada. Are you thinking about retiring in Las Vegas? Let me tell you that this is a fantastic place to retire and live out your golden years. In this amazing, often under-estimated and overly stereotyped city, there is something for everyone all year long.

At a quick glance, it is not difficult to sell a senior on retiring in Las Vegas. After all, real estate is still affordable, the climate is ideal and the ability to find a great deal on food is very easy. If you couple the low cost of living and lack of a state tax, a person on a fixed income could very well find happiness in Las Vegas after retirement.

Here are the top 5 reasons why you should retire in Las Vegas, Nevada:

1. No State Income Tax

Nevada is considered a ‘tax friendly’ state. This is a major reason people move to the state to live, work, and especially to retire in Las Vegas. A retirement in Nevada makes a lot of financial sense for many individuals. And Nevada is one of only a few states that does not impose an income tax.

Let’s look at how taxes are treated in the state of Nevada:

  • No state income tax
  • Social Security income is not taxed
  • Pension income is not taxed
  • Withdrawals made from retirement accounts aren’t taxed
  • No inheritance or estate tax

2. Lower Cost of Living

Las Vegas has a cost of living that is less than the national average. Senior citizens can have the peace of mind knowing that their money will go further in Las Vegas.

The cost of living is actually very reasonable making retirement in Las Vegas quite affordable. Home prices are relatively inexpensive, food and utilities are inexpensive, and there’s no shortage of economical retirement activities in Las Vegas.

A lot of local businesses offer senior citizen discounts.  They can also get discounts on certain show tickets, public transportation, restaurants that are not on the Las Vegas strip, and even thrift stores in town.

3. Retirement Communities

There is an abundance of 55+ retirement communities that cater to retirees. These active adult communities are home to golf courses, community centers and plenty of opportunities to socialize with like-minded individuals.

Each community features world-class amenities, including pools, fitness centers, easily accessible medical centers, educational facilities as well as access to hundreds of activities and classes the residents can attend.

Within these communities, social interaction is encouraged with a full calendar of events as well endless clubs and organizations.

I’ve done numerous videos on all the 55+ Active Adult Retirement Communities in the Las Vegas Valley.

4. Pleasant Climate

Warm and sunny…music to the ears of almost every retiree. Nevada boasts a semi-arid climate with very light rainfall totals…and no snow to shovel! You’ll also be far from hurricanes, risk very few earthquakes, and tornadoes are nearly non-existent.

If you are a retiree who enjoys a change of seasons, this is not the locale for you. But for those craving (or needing, for health reasons) a warm, sunny climate, it’s hard to beat the benefits of this desert community.

Sure, Las Vegas and other southern Nevada cities are known for triple-digit temps in the summer, but most of the year tends to be mild and warm.

5. Fun, Active, and Entertaining

Boredom shouldn’t be an issue in Nevada—the gambling and entertainment capital of the world. Besides all the obvious attractions and excitement of the Las Vegas strip (gambling, shows, shopping, food, people watching, etc.), the state offers top-notch golf courses along with beautiful natural areas such as Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation, Valley of Fire and Mount Charleston.

Whether you continue to make Las Vegas your home or decide to move here, I am confident that you are going to have a good time and make some amazing memories.

Retiring in Las Vegas has many perks. The city and surrounding areas are truly special and that’s why we love living here!
