Desert Shores VERSUS The Lakes Communities in Las Vegas, NV

Desert Shores VS The Lakes

Desert Shores VERSUS The Lakes Master Planned Communities

Desert Shores VERSUS The Lakes Master Planned Communities: People often get Desert Shores and the Lakes confused, but they are definitely two different types of master planned communities in Las Vegas, NV. In this video I will go over the difference between the two.

Desert Shores is a resort-style community in Las Vegas, located just east of Summerlin North, bordered by Rampart Boulevard to the west, Cheyenne Avenue to the north, Buffalo Drive to the east and Lake Mead Boulevard to the south in the 89128, zip code.

The Lakes is a private and secluded master-planned community located on the west side of Las Vegas, Nevada, just east of Summerlin South. This community is bounded by Sahara Avenue to the North, Durango Drive to the east, Desert Inn Road to the South, and Hualapai Way to the West in the 89117, zip code.

Each of them has its benefits and could be a suitable choice for your next home. Deciding to move to Desert Shores or the Lakes can be hard, but I’ve come up with some tips to help you decide which place could be best for you.

For me the main difference between the two is the number of lakes they each have. Desert Shores has 4 man-made lakes; Lake Jacqueline, Lake Maddison, Lake Lindsay and Lake Sarah. All of the lakes have public access from various key spots. While the Lakes only has one large man-made lake called Lake Sahara, which is a private Lake and available exclusively for homeowners and their guests.

So now I am going to go over all the amenities each community has to offer its residents.

Desert Shores:

This community encompasses 682 acres and features four man-made lakes, a lagoon style swimming pool surrounded by a sand beach, palm trees and a picnic park with volleyball, basketball and playground facilities.

Desert Shores was developed by RA homes in 1988 and include 22 different sub-divisions, with everything from condominiums to median price housing and large custom homes behind private gates. All the lakefront homes have direct access to the lakes and the option of private docks. There is a total of 3,351 homes in Desert Shores.

There are residences to fit any budget. Homes, condos and town homes are priced from $200’s to over $2 million.

Amenities Desert Shores has to offer:

  • 200,000 gallon, fully filtered swimming pool that is built to look like a tropical lagoon. During the Summer season, the lagoon is open six days a week – closed only on Mondays for maintenance. Lifeguards are on duty during operating hours.
  • 2,100 sq. ft. Desert Shores Clubhouse, is the site for many private parties and special community events.
  • Four man-made lakes; Lake Jacqueline, Lake Maddison, Lake Lindsay and Lake Sarah
  • Boating, Paddle Boating and Fishing in the Desert Shores Lake

You can go for biking or strolling in the community trails, which span across 8.5 miles. During your journey, you will be able to witness swans and ducks in their natural habitats.

The Lakes:

The Lakes is an affluent 2-square-mile planned community.  It was built from the mid-1980’s to the mid-1990’s.

The Lakes includes variety of residential properties that range from condos and modest single-family homes to immaculate estates with private docks located directly on the waterfront, over 4,000 homes. Buyers have the option of gated, non-gated and guard-gated communities inside this master planned community.

Lake Sahara lies on the western end of the neighborhood, and you’ll find some of the area’s most extravagant homes along its shores.

Amenities the Lakes has to offer:

  • Nearly 15 miles of tree-lined walking/biking paths with numerous exercise stations and scenic rest areas.
  • Lake Town Center is home to several excellent restaurants, a mini-market, a performing arts theatre, a dry cleaner, and a variety of other commercial businesses.
  • Sail boats and electric power boats are permitted on the lake, but only for its residents.
  • Two parks with scenic views of Lake Sahara.
